METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing chewing gum from concrete usually depends on the gum’s age and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it has not penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to get it off by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a workable consistency compared to a gooey and sticky glob. Once that happens, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper right under the gum. After that we move the scraper slowly under the gum and the entire piece should then peel right off of the concrete.

The above process is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove gum that is already black, or is smashed down into the concrete, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal service, we do not use very high pressure because that could ruin the surface of the concrete!
